North Carolinians for Recovery Oriented Care- or better known as, NC-ROCs!
NC-ROC's envisions a future in which all North Carolinians with mental health and substance use recovery needs achieve a high quality of life with the support of communities and health systems that embrace the principles of self-determination, resilience, and wellness.
The mission of NCROCs is to catalyze transformative change by influencing public opinion, policy and practice around a Recovery-Oriented System of Care.
There was a very important statement drafted entitled NC Recovery Summit DRAFT which as it states seeks to "create consensus for a Recovery-Oriented System of Care in policy and in practice in NC."
Key stakeholders came together to create consensus around the key elements that would assist our state in moving towards more recovery-oriented systems of care.
One important step towards that end was the state sponsoring the annual "NC One Community in Recovery Conference" which was developed to foster momentum and continuous growth of the recovery movement.
NCDHHS recognizes the importance of recovery and is working to move our state towards recovery-oriented care. Important examples are NC's DOJ Settlement Agreement (see document )and the Transition to Community Living Initiatve.
The document NC Recovery Summit DRAFT highlights the following important topics which include:
- Pathway to a Recovery Policy
- Recovery Integration: Mental Health and Substance Abuse
- Increasing Peer Support, Consumer-Operated Services and Self-Determination
- How Can Clinical Services be More Recovery Oriented
- Managed Care, How can LME-MCOs be more Recovery Oriented
- Developing a Mission statement and how the State Can Supported Recovery-Oriented Care
Important outcomes of the genesis of this coalition have been the 6th Annual One Community in Recovery Conference, and other social media sites such as the The NC Linked In Peer Support Group, and the NC-ROC's Facebook Page.
There have been some important responses to legislative threats to recovery that have taken place that can be seen in their Petition to Oppose the Murphy Bill (see their position statement here ) and the cost savings of a recovery-oriented approach to care as seen in Lyn's Legre's Recovery Story, in Dollars and Cents.
Some of the important organizations that make up NCROC's include:
- Benchmarks
- CooperRiis
- Disability Partners
